Genealogies of the Afrikaner Families in Natal (GAFN) records the genealogical registers of families who settled in Natal from the time of the Great Trek onwards. Dr Ben Cilliers published the work in 1985. He had begun archival research in 1980, while employed in Pietermaritzburg, and became aware of sources that had not been used until then.

Since 2008 this edition has built on his work. The original text has been retyped in full, checked, and supplemented from primary and secondary sources. Each family appears under its own surname, in alphabetical order, with generation numbers that show the relationship between generations.

Please note: This work should not be regarded as complete. It is being made available now so that researchers can use it while the updating continues.
